The basis for this project was to completely transform the way the Fay Jones green roof and Sky Terrace were utilized by students and visitors of the school. In order to do so, a reimagining of the green roof structure was in order. By reconfiguring the structure of the green roof, adding extra seating, introducing green wall structures, incorporating a green house and garden beds, planting pollinator friendly plants and trees, and generating learning opportunities across the entirety of the roof, this goal has been accomplished. Educational information regarding the health of water and soil on the roof, signage showcasing how the water on the roof is redirected and utilized, and spaces for visitors to learn about produce cultivation all provide a more empowering and substantial learning environment.
