Heifer Ranch First Impression
My capstone studio project focused on Heifer Ranch in Perryville, Arkansas, a facility dedicated to teaching local and international farmers regenerative agriculture techniques. Working alongside my partner, Elijah Willis, we embraced the principles of regenerative agriculture while expanding the project to foster a more natural ecosystem.
Our design incorporated several key elements: a productive tree orchard to support domesticated birds and food production, an oak savanna to attract native prairie birds and wildlife, and a retention wetland to encourage riparian planting and attract migratory wetland birds. These features were carefully planned for the ranch’s 3-acre site located at its entrance, with the goal of creating an ecological gateway to this remarkable 1,600-acre property.
